The 1970 Ford Mustang Convertible was one of the lowest in production numbers and a truly clean one is now becoming pretty rare. This one has spent almost its entire life (75,000) original miles in the western states. It was part of a west coast classic car collection and was then involved with another collector is a multi-classic car swap. We then got involved and purchased this Mustang. Most of this Mustang Convertible is still original and in excellent condition, such as the exterior and interior metal. Even both bumpers have original 1970 Ford markings on them and look like new.

When we purchased this Mustang the original 302 had already been totally rebuilt into a 347 Stroker motor. A very high performance 351 cam was installed and is revealed in the 351 firing order. This cam helps in producing the fantastic rumbling sound and power of this motor. New Aluminum High Performance FORD Heads, SVO (Special Vehicle Operation) M-6049-X302 racing Motor Division were added in the build. An Edelbrock four barrel Aluminum intake had also been installed. On top is a very well built Holley 650 Double Pumper Mechanical Secondary Carb custom jetted with the correct power valve and a manual choke. Mallory ignition had been installed and it now sports new custom fit Blue Spark Plug Wires. Top end Aluminum cast valve covers are clean and spotless underneath and continue to enhance the look. There are long tube ceramic headers flowing into 2 1/2 inch dual exhausts with a cross over pipe and new flow master mufflers. The warm idle vacuum runs around 8-10 inches (cam shaft) as this is a mean built motor yet the power brakes still work fine.

The transmission is a strong C4 with a 2,800 RPM stall converter and has a good fast shifting kit and down shift cable providing very solid shifts. We had the driveshaft checked over, tuned and balanced. The rear end has posi and it works.

The previous owner did have it re-painted once using the same original Grabber Blue code. Following that they added the Boss tribute graphics. As mentioned the previous owner had some further improvements done mainly building the Stroker 347 and C4 transmission.

Although the previous owner took good care of it trying to keep the car original in most of its appearance we decided to refresh certain areas. Some of the additional listed modifications (Photos) have been done to increase its eye appeal and muscle car performance and then others are focused on road handling.

We pulled the seats and all the original carpet. I installed new sound deadening under lament then top end (Mass Back) black cut pile carpeting throughout. There are two sets of four piece floor mats, Blue Pony and deep plush BOSS 302. The drivers seat had a very small failure in the original seam so I had both seats rebuilt and fully recovered with identical OEM skins. The rear seat is still looking great and is original yet I also have a complete new cover if ever needed. We pulled the dash and installed Blue LED interior dash and courtesy lighting which look really sharp at night. All the gauges work correctly.

The plug wires are now blue, the tires are now BFGoodrich staggered size and other minor changes. Underneath we replaced the original four stack leaf springs with new five leaf stacks, bushings and hangers. The front Ridetech (Blue) variable rate springs improved the front. The Boss has a nice mild old school rake to it now. Following an original Boss build we upgraded the original front sway bar with a heavy duty 1-1/8 sway bar and hardware. Then we installed a new rear sway bar assembly as it never had a rear one. To increase the handling and strengthen the Mustang we also installed/welded in Global West sub-frame stiffeners. This really took out any body flex improving the road handling of this classic even more. The front end got fresh hubs, wheel bearings, rotors, calipers and a new brake master cylinder. The entire car was aligned right into correct specs and drives with two fingers on the highway.

I also installed Hella lead glass headlights with H-4 130/90 watt bulbs all being powered by a H.D. relay kit. Then added two LED driving lights down low and out of sight in front and below the new original style 3 row radiator to aid in night driving when using high beams. We also installed a new fuel tank and sending unit. Be sure to explore the two detailed lists in pictures of many parts and labor. This Beautiful Boss Mustang Convertible is both dependable and runs like a well-bred race horse yearning for the open roads with its loud rumbling exhaust and its extremely quick response to the riders will.

This beautiful Convertible Boss Mustang has provided a lot of pleasure and reward in both purchasing it and taking it even further in restoring and improving it. It now looks and handles like it should have been in the beginning. We enter it in all the regional Classic Car events and it always wins best of show also first and second places. I have lost count on the number of people who just walk up and start complimenting the Mustang to no end.

This beauty is available for inspection and a test drive as long as the weather is clear and dry. It is stored inside year round and only comes out is good weather and clean roads. This Classic Mustang is a solid investment for the right people looking for some Classic Muscle Car enjoyment, stirring up old memories, making new memories for sure, delivering fantastic road performance and you will certainly be noticed.
