This 1975 Land Rover Series III Lightweight FFR (Fitted For Radio) is an ex-British military truck located by the seller in Ireland last year. Since then it has been fully restored with work taking place on both sides of the Atlantic. Refurbishment started with complete disassembly followed by bulkhead and chassis repairs, fitment of a new wiring harness, all new paint, and extensive mechanical and cosmetic freshening. We very rarely see the lightweights having dollars spent on restoration… most are in rough shape. This one is now looking great, and the seller mentions a recent 600+ mile road trip during which the truck had no problems. Lightweights were designed for helicopter transport, and though slightly narrower than normal bodied Land Rovers they actually tipped the scales a few pounds heavier, requiring many parts such as doors and top to be sent ahead separately. Though now completely rust-free, the truck did require quite a bit of metal work including repairs to the bulkhead, rear quarter chassis and more. All metal work was carried out by a professionals and the truck has since been fully resprayed in factory correct Bronze Green. Inside, the truck has received new upholstery and all gauges, lights, and switches work as designed. Note also the new, factory style, FFR-specific canvas top and correctly functioning heat, blower motor, and wipers. Coolant temp and oil pressure gauges have been fitted as well. Disassembly included pressure washing, degreasing and sand blasting of all chassis and body components as well as the axles. Underneath, the truck has been sprayed with two part primer/black paint and remains quite clean thanks to somewhat limited use since completion. The axles and their internal components were found to be in good working order, and the rear was given new axle shafts and both were given the new fluids and grease required. Other jobs included fitment of all new OEM brake drums, cylinders, shoes, lines, and rebuilding of the main steering box and front knuckle swivel joints. The truck’s standard 2.25L, 67 HP four was found to be in good running condition but has been fitted with a new head in order to allow use of unleaded gasoline. Other work included installation of a new distributor, carb, water pump, oil pump, gas tank, sending unit, fuel lines, and more. Additionally, both the starter and alternator have been rebuilt and the exhaust and all five 750 x 16 All Terrain tires are new. The seller adds that all restoration receipts are available and that work used OEM or high quality Bearmach replacement parts wherever possible. Many spares and a matching 5 gallon jerry can are included.
